The United States District Court for the District of Connecticut is one of the original 13 courts established by the Judiciary Act of 1789. The District of Connecticut has 8 active judges, 6 senior judges, and 5 magistrate judges. Court proceedings take place in Bridgeport, Hartford, and New Haven. Appeals from the Court are heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. This court has jurisdiction over and summons jurors from the counties of Fairfield, Hartford, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London, Tolland, and Windham.
