America 250

In honor of the Declaration of Independence's 250th anniversary, the District of Connecticut’s Public Outreach Committee is launching new educational programs for students and the community. Join us in celebrating this historic milestone!

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the founding of our nation, the court offered ‘The Judiciary and the Arts’, a project of The Hon. Robert A. Katzmann: Justice For All Courts and the Community Initiative in partnership with the District of Connecticut’s Public Outreach Committee and the Federal Bar Association. On May 21, 2026, prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winner. Talented student artists from Connecticut high schools (9-12 grades) learned the historic and present-day role of the federal courts and its development of the law in the United States through the visual arts. Their submissions focused on the following topics:

  • Voices of the American Jury
  • Naturalizations-Mural Mockup
  • Picturing Amistad: An Exploration of the Amistad Case
