Judge Eginton was appointed United States District Judge for the District of Connecticut on August 1, 1979. He is a graduate of Princeton University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948, and of Yale Law School, receiving a Juris Doctor degree in 1951.
Judge Eginton, prior to his appointment, was a member of the firm Cummings & Lockwood of Stamford, Connecticut, where he specialized in Products Liability Litigation. He was an Adjunct Professor at New York University and Fordham Law Schools. He is the author of Chapter 70, Products Liability, in “Business and Commercial Litigation in Federal Courts,” ABA Section of Litigation, published by West, 1998, and from 1988-93 he was Editor-in-Chief of the Product Liability Law Journal published by Butterworth Legal Publishers, and has authored several papers dealing with aspects of products liability. Before becoming a judge, he was a founding member of the Product Safety and Liability Prevention Technical Committee of the American Society for Quality Control and a member of the Products Liability Committee of the Defense Research Institute.
Judge Eginton is a member of the American Bar Foundation (former State Chair of Fellows), the American Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, the Federal Bar Council, the Federal Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Stamford, Connecticut Bar Association, the Judiciary Leadership Development Council, the Institute of Judicial Administration and the International Judicial Academy. As a member of the American Law Institute, he sits on the Members Consultative Group for the Restatement of Torts Third, Products Liability, and has participated as a speaker in numerous seminars sponsored by ALI-ABA.
Judge Eginton was the Founding President of the Raymond E. Baldwin American Inns of Court.
